Dear reader, You are not a dummy.

Diabetes occurs when the amount of glucose(sugar) in the blood is too high. The foods we eat are converted to glucose by the body and carried in the blood with the help of insulin(a hormone) into the cells where they produce energy.
When insulin is unable to do its job,the glucose accumulates in the blood and can’t get into the cells. Then high blood glucose-diabetes happens.

Type 1diabetes happens when the pancrease cannot produce insulin again and Type 2 diabetes(T2D) occurs when the insulin produced by the pancrease is not enough to get the glucose from the blood into the cells to produce energy.

I shall be focusing on T2D.The body tries to flush out the accumulated glucose in the blood by filtering it via the kidneys and out via urine.

People whose father, mother, brother or sister have had diabetes are at risk of coming down with it.
Native Americans, Hispanics and African Americans are more likely to have T2D.
Having diabetes during pregnancy is a risk factor to mothers and their babies.
High blood pressure, smoking are also risk factors of T2D.

MANAGEMENT OF DIABETES

Diabetes is not a death sentence. It just doesn’t have cure yet.
Healthy foods and regular exercise are needed to maintain a target blood glucose. Exercise boosts mood, reduces stress, lessens symptoms of depression and makes the cells more sensitive to insulin’s.
